Last Thursday, the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce (ICC) held its 2025 Annual General Meeting at the Richardson Complex for the Environment & Science in downtown Winnipeg. The meeting opened with ceremonial drumming and welcoming remarks from Elder Barbara Nepinak, setting the tone for the day’s proceedings.
Michelle Cameron, Board Chair for the ICC, delivered thoughtful insights reflecting on the year’s achievements and the road ahead for the organization. Cameron remarked that it is important to recognize that Indigenous businesses often do not operate like traditional businesses.
“Indigenous businesses do not work in isolation,” said Cameron, “Indigenous businesses carry the entire community with them, they provide employment and show young people what they are capable of.”
The day’s proceedings continued with an important financial update for the Chamber. Notably, the ICC has improved its financial position over the last year owing to its increase in funding for important development projects and a growing membership base.
President & CEO Renee Greyeyes shared a powerful message on the ICC’s growth and priorities moving forward, emphasizing partnerships and economic inclusion for Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities. Greyeyes highlighted the slate of new members that have joined the ICC as of late in addition to its growing presence online and through its newsletter.
In addition, the 2025 Launching Success luncheon raffle prize was awarded, with Raven Ozhigaa Development taking home the grand prize – a beautiful piece created by a local Indigenous artist.
